After its smash-hit launch in Japan, Sony's looking to blast the handheld market wide open in the U.S. and Europe for 2005. The PlayStation Portable, or PSP, is expected to launch in March, marking the first time for years that Nintendo has had serious competition in the portable arena.
Thanks in part to the weak dollar, nobody (including Sony) is prepared to speculate on what the asking price for a PSP might be. A straight conversion of the Japanese launch price indicates US gamers might be having their wallets lightened to the tune of over $460. While the PSP is expected to be comparatively expensive, it surely can't be over $400... can it? For that money, you might as well buy a PS2, a TV and a stack of car batteries to power them -- and you'd probably get better running time into the bargain.
