Voici un mail de news reçu de Craig de GBAX :
Hello Everyone, Craig here,
Covered in this issue: New Releases, Battery life, CPU speed and Firmware updates.
Well the GP2X has been available now for about a month, and the number of releases has been amazing.
First up, Dr.MDx, a full speed Megadrive/Genesis emulator, which has to be one of the best Megadrive emulators on any system! Get it here: http://archive.gp2x.de/cgi-bin/cfiles.cgi?0,0,0,0,5,986
Still don't have a GP2X? We have finally cleared all preorders and the system is in stock now. If you are quick you can get one before Christmas with a free USB Reader/Writer. Checkout http://www.gp2x.co.uk
Other emulators include a pre-release of MAME, NeoGeo CD (with MP3 support!), C64, BBC, Atari 800, SNES, NES and ZX Spectrum. You can download them all here http://archive.gp2x.de/cgi-bin/cfiles.cgi?0,0,0,0,5
It’s not just emulators on the GP2X, there have been some brilliant ports:
Duke Nukem 3D: http://archive.gp2x.de/cgi-bin/cfiles.cgi?0,0,0,0,20,956
Quake: http://archive.gp2x.de/cgi-bin/cfiles.cgi?0,0,0,0,20,855
Star Contol II (UQM): http://archive.gp2x.de/cgi-bin/cfiles.cgi?0,0,0,0,26,1001
More including Transport Tycoon, Wolfenstein, Hexen etc.
That really is just a small taste, checkout the official GP2X file archive for everything else! http://archive.gp2x.de/cgi-bin/cfiles.cgi
Guyfawkes has made a very in depth user guide for all aspects of the GP2X, including getting started with making games. Check it out here: http://archive.gp2x.de/cgi-bin/cfiles.cgi?0,0,0,0,23,933
Now the subject of Battery life, using cheap batteries will give terrible results, but a good set of NiMh rechargeables, such as Ansmann 2500 camera batteries, should give over 5 hours. We highly recommend getting some, they are available from most electronic shops and we will also add them to our website in the New Year, along with PSU's and the much requested TV-Out cable. Oh we can't wait for the TV-out goodness.
Next up, CPU Speeds, as you might know the GP2X is capable of going faster than it is currently set to, the CPU/LCD Tweaker allows you to vary the CPU and LCD set up; this can also remove any shadows or diagonal lines from your LCD. http://archive.gp2x.de/cgi-bin/cfiles.cgi?0,0,0,0,8,1000
Firmware updates:
We recommend you wait before doing any firmware updates until a reliable flashing program is released, this should be in the coming weeks.
I noticed a nice article about how being open gave the GP2X a huge advantage:
http://linux.oneandoneis2.org/blog/2005/12/how-much-is-free-worth.html
Or to put it another way:
'If you're not Nintendo, Sony, or a big corporation that has money to throw around and you release a handheld that isn't opensource/doesn't do home-brew, you're dead.'
Coming up:
In 2006 we will of course be holding a coding competition (once everyone is used to deving on the GP2X) and you will also be able to go direct to raw hardware when making programs.
